Welling Tunnel, Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, Cameron, West Virginia

Built in 1852, connecting Baltimore (Maryland) with Wheeling (West Virginia, on the edge of Ohio), the Baltimore & Ohio railroad pierced through the Appalachians. This tunnel is south of Cameron, under a ridge called Tunnel Hill. The name of the tunnel comes from the Welling family, who sold the land to the railroad. There is recent activity on the southern entrance, most likely from gas line company, who may want to use the tunnel for a gas pipeline. The northern end is flooded, waist high.
